Dear Scholarship Applicant:
I am pleased that you plan to attend a college in Maryland.
The District 17 Senate Scholarship application process uses a community-based committee to select the students who will be awarded scholarships.
While this committee chooses the award recipients, the awards are processed by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).
Award criteria include financial need, academic performance, and community service.
To apply for a District 17 Senate Scholarship, you must:
- Reside in Legislative District 17. Confirm
address at http://mdelect.net;
- Complete the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1;
Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov or contact your guidance or financial aid office;
- Attend an approved Maryland institution,
or, if your major is unavailable in Maryland and you want to attend an out-of-state program, contact MHEC for "unique major status" and get written permission to do so.
(Click here for the MHEC web page on applying for unique major status);
- Enroll for at least six credit hours per semester.
