FOREHAND TO RUN FOR SENATE RE-ELECTION
ANNAPOLIS, MD, July 16, 2009 -- Senator Jennie Forehand, who represents Rockville, Gaithersburg and Garrett Park, today announced her run for re-election to the Maryland State Senate in 2010, having filed her candidacy with the State Board of Elections.
An influential member of the Maryland Senate and the Montgomery County Delegation, Forehand points to her success in pushing through local transportation solutions, bringing high-paying jobs to the area through support of the biotech industry, and securing funding for civic development projects.
"I deliver results for the people in my district; I always have," said Senator Forehand. "In my next term, I plan to continue the fight on the critical issues we face -- energy costs, traffic congestion, the mortgage crisis, health care, and keeping our neighborhoods and roads safe.
"The Senate needs steady and experienced hands as we confront the challenges of a national economic downturn," she added.
Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr. said, "Senator Forehand is a tireless advocate, respected by her colleagues because she works to find common ground in the Maryland Senate. She gets the job done for the residents of Rockville, Gaithersburg and Garrett Park."
Recognized as one of the strongest legislative voices for the ICC in the years-long battle to build the road, Jennie Forehand is an experienced transportation advocate. This year, she secured $1.5 billion in Federal funding over 10 years for Metro through her successful legislation and was lead Senate Sponsor for bills that created some of the State's toughest drunk driving laws. She is also credited as a major player in making Maryland "smoke-free."
Jennie Forehand was elected to the Senate in 1994. She serves on the Judicial Proceedings Committee and the Committees on Children, Youth and Families and Management of Public Funds. She chairs the Joint Committee on Federal Relations.
Senator Forehand has been recognized by, among others, MADD, the Maryland State's Attorneys Association, the Tech Council of Maryland, the Women's Bar Association, Planned Parenthood, and the Montgomery County Medical Society. She has been named to Maryland's Top 100 Women "Circle of Excellence."
